Dharwad: Election Officials Seize Unaccounted Cash
Dharwad: In a bid to curb election-related irregularities, election officials have been actively monitoring check-posts across various locations. On Monday, significant amounts of unaccounted cash were seized in separate incidents, raising concerns about potential malpractices during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
At the Tadas cross check-post, officials intercepted a vehicle and discovered Rs 2.20 lakh in unaccounted cash during a routine search. The individual in possession of the money failed to provide proper documentation, prompting officials to seize the funds and deposit them into the treasury.
Similarly, on Saturday, another incident occurred at the same check-post involving an Innova Hycross car transporting Rs 1.10 lakh in unexplained cash. Despite inquiries, the owner of the vehicle couldn’t furnish details for the amount, leading to its seizure by the vigilant staff.
In another instance at the Sangatikoppa check-post on Karwar Road in Kalaghatagi taluk on Sunday, officials seized Rs 55,500 from an individual carrying the cash in their car. Once again, the owner failed to produce the necessary documents, resulting in the confiscation of the funds by authorities.
